Childhood is often remembered as a place of innocence, though it is more accurately a series of thresholds.
There are moments that quietly divide a life into before and after. They rarely announce themselves. Instead, they arrive unexpectedly, asking us to confront something we cannot yet understand.
The Threshold explores that fragile space between curiosity and consequence. The children stand together, illuminated against the gathering darkness, suspended between the safety of what they know and the uncertainty of what lies just beyond their reach. The abandoned bicycle and encroaching landscape suggest an ordinary afternoon interrupted by an extraordinary discovery, though the nature of that discovery is intentionally left unseen.
Rather than depicting a specific event, the photograph invites viewers to recall their own threshold moments, the experiences that quietly altered the way they understood the world.
